Real-world use case

Fix CGNAT IP rotation with a VPS tunnel

If your ISP rotates your CGNAT IP and breaks sessions, POS logins or POST requests — a VPS tunnel is the correct fix. Here is the honest picture:

Tradeoffs
  • Latency+10–30ms — negligible for browsing/POS.
  • Banking/2FASome banks flag datacenter IPs or ask extra verification. Usually fine, occasionally annoying.
  • Single point of failureIf the VPS is down, no internet until the client fails over. Mitigate with a good client + failover.
  • CostOne VPS.
UDP caveat
  • WireGuard is UDPIf your ISP mangles UDP, the tunnel itself can suffer. Outline (Shadowsocks over TCP) is more robust — or WireGuard-over-TCP/443. Test which survives.
  • ReputationFresh VPS IP = clean. If someone spams from it, it gets flagged like any IP.
  • QUIC?Not specifically — QUIC works now. The tunnel fixes the rotation causing resets. QUIC-over-tunnel = QUIC from the VPS IP, which is fine.
Proxy vs VPN vs tunnel
  • HTTP proxyBrowser only, doesn't cover all apps. Not enough.
  • Commercial VPNExit IP is shared (could be worse reputation), you don't control it.
  • Self-hosted VPS tunnel (Outline/WireGuard)You control the IP, dedicated, revocable keys. Best fit for business.

Test it yourself: spin up Outline (easiest — per-user keys, TCP-based, survives UDP issues) on a PK VPS, run it on your laptop, then re-run your stability test. If the exit IP stays the same across runs, it's worth rolling to staff.
